I am a 26-year-old male who often plays football. I have injured myself quite badly this past week and think I may need to see a doctor. How dangerous is a sports related injury to the back?

All depends on the nature of the injury. Most football injuries are musculoskeletal injuries - sore for some time but can get back to playing. It would be very unusual to have internal or eg spine injuries from football.
If you are concerned about it, then certainly get it checked out, it could potentially be a significant problem going forward.

It depends on the severity of the injury and could vary from mild strain of the back muscles to disc herniation with compression of the nerve.
