How do radiation treatments affect children?

My 13 year old needs radiation treatments for his cancer. I want to know how do radiation treatments affect children?

High risk for brain, hematologic and bone cancer.

It can cause long-term side effects such as stunted growth, scar tissue, or damage to the kidneys.
