• How do you feel after general anesthesia?

I'm 42, and I need to have a surgery done under general anesthesia. How do patients usually feel after receiving anesthesia? Do they usually feel lousy?

  • Anesthesiologist
  • LAFAYETTE, LA

Every patient is different. But in general one can expect to be a bit groggy when they first wake up and will get progressively more awake. However if pain medicines are administered after arrival in the recovery area, a patient will very likely fall back into a comfortable sleep. Some patients may experience nausea upon awakening from anesthesia and that can be an unpleasant feeling.
