• How do you sleep after a chiropractic adjustment?

I'm going to have a chiropractic adjustment next week and it's my very first one. I heard it's actually a relaxing experience. How do patients usually sleep after an adjustment?

Typically I hear patients say they sleep extremely well after treatments.

Stomach, side, or back...preferably back.

Usually much sounder. Be sure to follow good sleeping hygiene, i.e., not in your stomach, don’t twist if on your side, no TV in bed unless it’s at least 5 to 6 feet up off the floor, put a pillow either under your knees or between your knees. Another hint, DON’T watch the news before bed time.

Some do right after an adjustment. Most sleep great that night.

I was taught in chiropractic school that an adjustment can make you sleepy and I have seen that in my clinical practice. I have not heard that restless sleeping is a side effect. Hope this information helps.

Hello,

Most chiropractic patients find treatments very relaxing with some experiencing soreness similar to starting a new exercise program. Many patients do experience improved sleep, but this isn't all the case. Many variables are at play regarding sleep: neurotransmitters, nutrition, stress, etc.

Sincerely,

A side effect of Chiropractic care can be improved sleep. My patients frequently report better sleep after treatment.

Typically either very deeply or very poorly, depends on the amount of damage you have

Usually really well, however, because the adjustment affects so many different systems of the body, you may actually feel more awake and alert afterward.
