Usually an mri and an eeg are used to diagnose seizures.

Epilepsy may be diagnosed by history taking or talking to a doctor, brain scans like EEGs or MRIs. Please consult a neurologist if you have concerns for epilepsy in yourself or others.

Majority of times, initially it is diagnosed from history of from patient or accompanying person. Then subsequently checked with EEG and/or MRI brain.
