• How effective are colonoscopies in finding tumors?

I'm a 40-year-old male, and I am scheduled to have my first colonoscopy next week. I need it because there's a history of colorectal cancer within my family. Are colonoscopies usually effective in finding tumors?

Yes, they are quite accurate for finding tumors. It would be quite unusual to miss a tumor. Smaller polyps might be missed, however.

Colonoscopies are the MOST effective way to find colon tumors or polyps (pre-tumors).

Yes, colonoscopies are fairly successful in finding cancers. It also depends on how well the colon is cleaned out and the skill of your physician.
