• How important is stretching?

I've never played any sports before, but I want to start going to the gym. Before that, I would like to know how important is stretching and do I need to do it before every practice? Thanks!

It can be very helpful to not only improve muscle quality but also prevent injuries.

10 minutes before & 10 minutes after.

Not overly important, but can help with hamstrings and as we get older (70+). Start off at gym slowly & build up.

I personally think stretching as well as core strength are the most neglected parts of any sports or conditioning program. Keep it smooth, in control and gradually increasing.

Warm stretching is extremely important. It will lessen pain after workouts, decrease risk of injury, and usually increase speed & quickness.

Stretching is very important especially as we age. The older we get the less flexible we become and the more prone to injury you are. I would stretch the body part you’re going to be working out with before and after your work out. This will help keep muscles, tendons and ligaments from injury.
