• How is hepatitis C diagnosed?

There were a few cases of hepatitis C that stemmed from the tattoo parlor I got my tattoo from. I'm not experiencing any symptoms, but do you think I should get tested? What tests would I be referred to?

Only test to screen for Hepatitis C is to check antibodies against Hep C followed by Hepatitis Viral Load if screening test is positive.

If you were exposed to hepatitis c then you should definitely get tested. This is only done by blood test where they first screen and if positive do further testing for titres

A specific antibody test for Hep C infection and a liver function test to check for possible activity

Yes, you should test your blood. Even though you don’t have symptoms you may still have been exposed. The first test I usually send for is a hepatitis C antibody (IgG), and if positive I send for a virus load count with liver function studies.

Hepatitis C has been called The Silent Epidemic. Almost no one has symptoms until it is severe and then it's obvious the liver has a problem. I strongly recommend you get a blood test for the hepatitis C virus antibody (HCV Ab).
