My daughter had a migraine that lasted the entire day, which just seems really abnormal. How long do migraines typically last in children?
Migraines in children, just as in adults, can last hours to days. When they last more than a day, we call it status migrainosus. When this is the case, and if they are frequent, we usually recommend a preventative treatment. A daily medication to reduce the severity and frequency of the migraines. It is also important to find a rescue medication to treat the migraines. The more effective the drug, the less likely the recurrence.
