• How long should my child stay home with strep?

My son was diagnosed with strep throat after experiencing a sore throat, fever, and swollen tonsils. He just started his antibiotics today. How long should I keep him out of school?

Hello

You can keep your son home for 2 days. Once he starts antibiotics, he won’t be contagious. He can finish the course for 7-10 days, according to your doctor. Hope he feels better.

You should give the child antibiotics and keep the child at home for two days before sending him to school again.

He needs to be on appropriate antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school and he can keep liquids down. Be sure to get a new toothbrush and remind him not to drink after anyone.
