• How often should fillings be replaced?

I had a filling on my tooth 2 years ago. It seems okay now because it's not causing me any issues, but how often should fillings be replaced?

It needs to be replaced if and when it fails or if you get a cavity around the sides of the filling.

The typical filling in the United States has a life span of 5 years. However, some filling can last between 20-30 years. With regular cleanings and exams it will be noted if there are any issues that would require replacement and treatment will be discussed with your dentist at that time.

Depending on the size, location, type of filling material used, oral hygiene and diet fillings, crowns and bridges can last from only a few years to a few decades.

When they need to be replaced. Your dentist will know when they need to be replaced.
