• What causes recurrent kidney stones? Is there a way to prevent them?

I am constantly having recurrent kidney stones problem since the last 3 years. Is it because of my food or something else? Is there a way to prevent these kidney stones? I drink a lot of water and try to eat a balanced diet. Kidney problems run in my family but my family is all pretty unhealthy.

Knowing etiology and composition of the kidney stone will help treat the stone. To know the etiology needs blood work, 24-hr urine testing, etc. Depending on the stone type and the results of the metabolic work-up, there can be treatment. For all kinds of stone, increased fluid intake, low-salt diet, and low animal protein will help. You should see a kidney specialist to do the metabolic work-up of kidney stone.
