I am a 58 year old female and I need to have a hysterectomy. Is a hysterectomy done under general anesthesia?

Yes, 98% of hysterectomies are done under general anesthetic, especially laparoscopic and robotic, but some can be done under spinal if they are open surgeries.
Hysterectomy could be done under regional or general anesthesia. I reccomend general to my patients.
