No. It is referred to as an "endodontic" treatment.

Sometimes it is considered oral surgery...depending on the procedures done. Root canal treatment can be done surgically and non-surgically. Generally, root canal refers to non-surgical. Root canal surgery, or Apicoectomy, would be surgery (endodontic or oral surgery).

Technically, yes, as your endodontist will be removing part of live or dead tissue from your tooth. But it's not traditional oral surgery where there are incisions and stitches in your mouth. Although there is something called periradicular surgery, which is essentially oral surgery and involves stitches.
Hope I answered your question!
Thanks.

Typically a root canal is considered a non-surgical procedure.

No, the specialty of root canals is called Endodontics, and a root canal specialist is an endodontist. Oral Surgery is a different specialty branch of dentistry.
