• Is a vaginal infection contagious?

I have been diagnosed with a vaginal yeast infection and I'm currently on treatment for it. Can this infection spread to my husband through sex?

Thank you for your question. Yes, yeast can be transmitted sexually, although it is often without symptoms in a man.

Yes, but the yeast is usually Candida species and it grows normally in our gastrointestinal track. If he is a healthy man and has no open sores on his penis, he is unlikely to acquire anything because yeast requires moisture to grow and penis is generally dry enough that the yeast does not take hold.

Yes, it can spread. It will be advisable if both of you take medication. For your husband, it will be enough just the 1 pill/1 dose/1 day of fluconazole (Diflucan ONE). These are available over the counter. Make sure you both get treated at the same time as the infection can travel from one to another.
