• Is generalized anxiety disorder different from just anxiety?

I was just feeling really anxious and I told my doctor about it. Fast-forward to a week later, and I'm diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. Is this different from regular anxiety?

Generalized Anxiety Disorder is the formal name used by professionals for what a layperson would possibly call just regular anxiety.

In a nutshell, it is the same thing. The difference is that some people may only have anxiety about something specific, such as crossing a bridge, or walking by a dog, whereas other people (like you) might have more than one situation that brings you anxiety (therefore, generalized). Anxiety is one of the easiest disorder to treat with a psychologist. Find one that fits what you're looking for and start your process right away.

GAD is anxiety at a higher level. Where almost anything can set it off. But you might have been diagnosed for insurance payments. Many people get misdiagnosed for those reasons.
