• Is it safe for a 10 year old child to have an MRI performed?

My son will have MRI scan performed. I am afraid of unnecessary radiation. Does MRI use radiation? Is it safe for 10 year old child to have an MRI performed?

MRI uses non ionizing energy. It is completely safe for any age unless one has a cardiac pacemaker or a defibrillator

It is completely safe. MRI scanners use radio waves and magnetic fields, which are not ionizing radiation. X-rays use ionizing radiation, which can lead to DNA damage and are therefore mutagenic.

There is no radiation with MRI.

MRI does not use radiation and, along with ultrasound, is the best imaging for children. Of course, the indication for imaging must always be factored in.
