I'm a 23-year-old athlete and I strained my muscle during my training. Is physical therapy effective for muscle strains?

Physical therapy is effective. The therapist can give you therapeutic exercises to stretch and strengthen. They can also teach you techniques to avoid having whatever problem you have

Yes, physical therapy is the appropriate place to start, in general, for muscle strains and sprains. If you don't get better initially with PT, consider seeing a physician who specializes in non-surgical care of muscle injuries, i.e., physiatrists.

Physical therapy is generally effective for muscle strains and it is unlikely to make any injury worse however the type of therapy that would be most effective depends on the injury for example an inflammation might be best treated with relative rest and non intense weight bearing whereas a tendinosis- overuse ligament loading might do better with eccentric loading exercises! In any case the most important part of any therapy is Homework- Home exercise program since therapy is 1-3 times a week but there are 7 days in the week so stretches that are taught must be done every day since muscles work by use them or lose them!

Yes, physical therapy is very effective for muscle strains. Physical therapy can reduce the inflammation and educate you on future training. It will also balance the weaknesses with your strengths. I would definitely recommend you start physical therapy!

It sure can be effective, especially to get you back to your “A” game. Contact a clinic in your area. Many offer free sports injury assessments. Depending on your state regulations, you may need your primary care doctor’s referral.
