• Is stem cell transplant a safe option for leukemia?

My friend's son was diagnosed with leukemia a few months ago, and he's currently undergoing radiation therapy. However, now his parents are looking into stem cell transplant therapy for treatment. But he's really young, and after reading up about it, it doesn't seem like a safe option. Does stem cell therapy work for leukemia, and is it actually a safe option for children?

In a lot of cases it is the highest chance of cure. Oncologist are doing them younger and earlier in the treatment for children who their type of leukemia does not respond well to chemotherapy
