My friend is 27 years old, and she has a hypothyroid, which she was diagnosed a year ago. Can this disease be cured?

Well, it is a condition that can be treated, but requires a follow up testing at least twice a year to make sure your doctor is given you the right dose. It is important to do this f/u tests because giving to much or to little of the drug can have detrimental effects on your body. But definitively it can be treated and keep it under control.

Hypothyroid cannot be cured. It is damage of the thyroid hormone-producing cells of the thyroid and those cells cannot be resurrected from the dead. But it's not so bad. Just take a pill a day and get the hormone checked in the lab periodically and she will be okay. I've had it for 26 years and I just take one pill a day along with the rest of my pills for heart, cholesterol, etc.
