• Are painkillers advisable for older people?

My mother is constantly suffering from pain in her hands, ankles and knees because of rheumatoid arthritis. She pops painkillers very often. However, I am worried since she is on a number of medications. Are painkillers safe for older people? How can I encourage her to try other pain relief methods?

Absolutely not. Painkillers are NOT suitable for older people. Painkillers have a lot of side effects. It is important to know what is a safe dose. Painkillers should not be used chronically.
