Between .8 and 1 mg. All over-the-counter vitamins touted as a PRENATAL vitamin are required to have that amount. Read your label first.

As a baseline, a 0.4 to 1mg daily dose is a good place to start. Depending on your history, your obstetrician may increase your dose accordingly.

If you never had a child with neural tube defect, I advise you to take 0.4 mg folic acid 3 months before the conception period.

800 mcg to 1 mg of folic acid is recommended, start your folic acid atleast 3 months before you try to get pregnant to get the maximum benefits from it.
Good luck and take care!

Usually, 1 gram or 1000 milligrams per day. Some medications requiring 3000 milligrams per day. Prenatal vitamins should be taken for 3 months prior to conception if possible.

I'm happy for you. Routine supplementation is 400mcg/day (0.4 mg/day). Women who have conceived/delivered an infant with neural tube defects need to take 4mg/day.
