Keep your leg elevated as much as possible pump your ankle to circulate the blood. If the swelling persists or should you develop pain in the calf you should have an ultrasound to be sure you’re not developing a blood clot. Your doctor may have put you on an anticoagulant such as aspirin to prevent any clots.

Some swelling is normal but if it extends to the calf and is painful you should seek immediate evaluation to rule out a blood clot.

First, you should be calling your surgeon to ask that question. Gravity pulls fluid down, so if you haven't propped your leg up, its just gravity. However, if it is bothering you enough to send an email, a doctor should look at it to make sure it isn't something more serious.
