• What is the treatment for cerebral atrophy?

My father has been suffering from cerebral atrophy. Can physical therapy help in treating his condition? I don't know much about this condition but I would think connection between the brain and body is important to maintain during this time.

Hello! Yes, PT can definately help with reducing decline and improving function from cerebral atrophy. You might also want to see a Speech Language Pathologist. Hope this helps.

It would depend on the area of his brain that is effected. The area damaged impacts certain parts of the body based on the area of the brain. For example, strokes impact people differently depending on the side of the brain and location of the occlusion. Generally keeping his body moving and incorporating cognitive/brain activities with movement would be beneficial to help slow any decline. I would advise you to seek out a therapist who specializes in neurological rehabilitation. All the best.

PT will help for sure. But your dad needs a complete evaluation.

As a result of the cerebral atrophy, your father may have some weakness and balance issues. Physical therapy would be an important aspect of his treatment not only to prevent further decline, but also for strength and conditioning.
