My son is 4 years old and has impetigo. What would be the most effective treatment?

Impetigo is usually caused by streptococcus.

If there is just one or 2 spots you can use antibiotic ointment until healed. If it is spreading or multiple spots he may need oral antibiotics also

Appropriate treatment for simple impetigo generally involves use of a topical antibiotics, such as mupirocin. If the lesions are complicated with evidence of cellulitis the use of oral antibiotics appropriate for strep or staph may be necessary.
