• What are the techniques of behavior therapy?

I believe my 13 year old son needs behavioral therapy for repetitive behaviors. I want to know what are the techniques of behavior therapy?

Not entirely sure, but I feel that it is just retraining a certain pattern for another appropriate pattern, and being able to recognize the start of maladaptive patterns and/or thoughts. That’s about as simple as I can put it.

Hope that helps,

Behavioral therapy is based on the premise that a habit becomes a habit after 21 days of repetitive behaviors. The use of positive reinforcements while purposefully not utilizing negative reinforcements. What we as parents tend to forget is that when our children act up they are seeking attention. To them, negative attention is still attention. Set aside one hour a day where it is your special time with your child. Even if it's just to sit quietly together. Keep it same time every day. Children need consistency and structure.
