• What can I eat after general anesthesia?

I need to have an appendectomy done in the next week. I'll be under general anesthesia for the procedure. What exactly can I eat after having general anesthesia?

You can have a regular diet after general anesthesia, but the nurses will start with liquids/clears first to see how you tolerate it and also to see if your bowels are moving before progressing to a regular diet.

You will not be allowed to eat solids right away. You will start with ice cups, jello, soups, then graduate to solids after a few hours.

You can eat whatever you want. Sometimes you can be more susceptible to nausea and vomiting, so I always tell people to consider what they might be cleaning up if they do get sick.
