What causes pain in the shoulder joint?

My 13 year old son's shoulder hurts after soccer. He is not sure how he injured it playing sports. What causes pain in the shoulder joint?

Rotator cuff injury.

He could have injured his Acromioclavicular joint when he fell forward.
