• What's the treatment like for kids with Lyme disease?

My son was diagnosed with Lyme disease after being bit from a tick in our backyard. What's the treatment for kids with Lyme? Is it the same as adults?

Without knowing your child's age and the background, I can only tell you that overall, the proper antibiotic treatment is the same in adults and children above 8 years old. For younger children, amoxicillin and cefuroxime axetil are efficacious. Please discuss this treatment with your doctor.

Treatment of children with Lyme disease is very similar to that of adults, except if the child is less than 8 years of age. Uncomplicated Lyme is treated with doxycycline for 14-21 days. For children under 8 years of age, amoxicillin is used instead. Duration of treatment is the same.
