Why do they tape your eyes shut during surgery?

I am a 24 year old female. I want to know why do they tape your eyes shut during surgery?

During anesthesia, you don't have eye protective reflexes, and secretions decrease. So, you have a propensity for eye lesions like corneal abrasions.
