I am a 29 year old female. I have fair skin and burn easily. Why does having fair skin make you more likely to get skin cancer?

The more melanin (skin pigment) one has, the more protected the skin from the sun's harmful UV rays. Light skinned people have less pigment and therefore more prone to sun damage.
