Whenever you have a concern about why you are being prescribed a medication it is always best to ask the prescribing clinician with your concerns. As a non participant not directly involved with your case I can only speculate as to why an antibiotic may have been prescribed. There are many factors involved in deciding whether or not and what medication to prescribe in any case. All I can say is your treating clinician observed factors that warranted an antibiotic to help proper healing in your case.

Antibiotics are a preventative cover to avoid any infection after the extraction procedure. It depends on if it was a simple extraction or surgical and based on that, antibiotics are prescribed. It’s important to follow the instructions given by your dentist. The first 2 weeks are very important for healing.
