• Will I be sedated during my tonsillectomy?

I'm 24 and I'm supposed to have a tonsillectomy very soon. Will I need to be sedated during the procedure?

You will be asleep.

You will likely receive general endotracheal anesthesia, meaning you will be asleep and unresponsive with a breathing tube placed to protect your airway. The breathing tube will typically be removed once you are awake and following commands. Most patients do not remember the breathing tube being placed or removed.
