10 Breast Cancer Events Across the United States that Fight for a Cure
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
If you’ve ever participated in an event designed to fight breast cancer before, then you’ve likely heard about the Susan G Komen foundation and the annual Race for the Cure. The organization is named after Susan Goodman Komen and was started by Komen’s sister, Nancy Goodman Brinker after Komen died of breast cancer at the young age of 36. The Komen Foundation seeks to raise awareness in hopes that the disease can be caught earlier and treated more successfully.
The Komen Foundation was begun by Brinker in 1982 and the first Race for the Cure followed close behind in 1983 in Dallas, Texas. Since then the Race for the Cure has grown into the single biggest event for the fight against breast cancer. The Race for the Cure takes place around the country each year.
