Get to know Addiction Medicine Specialist Dr. Karen E. Arscott, who serves patients throughout the state of Pennsylvania.

An exceptional addiction medicine specialist, Dr. Arscott is serving at the Malibu Wellness Ranch in Milford, Pennsylvania, and the Withdrawal Management detox center at Dingman’s Ferry, Pennsylvania.

Before embarking on her professional journey, she graduated from Dunmore High School and pursued a bachelor’s degree with a double major in Biology and Chemistry from Marywood University. Her thirst for knowledge led her to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Clinical Science degrees.

An expert in her field, Dr. Arscott is board-certified in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) and also board-certified in neuromuscular medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromuscular Medicine.

Actively engaged in medical leadership, the doctor has served as the President of the Lackawanna County Medical Society Board in 2022 and as a Board of Trustee member of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA). Beyond her local commitments, she is a leader in the fight against lung cancer, serving as the National Ambassador for GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer and Co-Chair of PA Lung.

As for her academic appointment, Dr. Arscott shares her knowledge and insights on addiction medicine and interprofessional education at local, regional, national, and international forums. Her role as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine exemplifies her dedication to shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Addiction medicine is a medical subspecialty that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, evaluation, treatment, and recovery of persons with addiction, of those with substance-related and addictive disorders, and of people who show unhealthy use of substances including alcohol, nicotine, prescription medicine and other illicit and licit drugs. An addiction medicine specialist provides prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment services for patients with unhealthy substance use or substance-related health conditions.
