Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. James J. Reid, who serves patients in California.
Dr. Reid is a dual fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon and extremity specialist. He serves the community of Culver City in Los Angeles, California, with the highest level of skilled care for his patients.
At his practice, he offers a broad complement of orthopedic and sports medicine nonoperative and operative treatments: including injections, joint replacement arthroplasty, joint arthroscopy, as well as fracture care. His many years of training and experience offer accurate diagnoses and treatments for all upper extremity injuries and foot/ankle injuries.
After growing up in the Bay Area, Dr. Reid went on to complete his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. Following this, he completed a pre-medical, post baccalaureate program for minority medical student applicants at the University of California, San Diego, where he graduated with Provost’s Honors.
Furthering his education, Dr. Reid went to medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York. In between his second and third years of medical school, he was awarded the prestigious American Heart Association Research Fellowship and completed the year of benchtop medical research at the University of California, San Francisco.
After graduating from medical school, Dr. Reid completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at LAC + USC Medical Center. He then performed two orthopedic fellowships: in arthroscopy/sports medicine at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, and in foot/ankle surgery at Baylor University Medical Center.
Providing skilled, compassionate care for patients of all ages, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
Since 2010, Dr. Reid has been serving as the Medical Director of Delphi Healthcare Partners Orthopedic Program, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. He can also be found on the Surgical Monitoring Committee at the said hospital.
Previously, from 2007 until 2011, he served as the Assistant Medical Director at Tissue Banks International. He was also a part of the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program at St. Mary’s Medical Center from 2008 until 2009, after which he served in many other positions until he opened his private practice in May of 2019.
Maintaining several memberships in professional orthopedic surgery organizations, Dr. Reid is a member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Southern Graduate Orthopedic Society. He is also a current Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
Throughout his brilliant career, Dr. Reid has authored countless orthopedic publications/book chapters, and has spoken at several national/international surgical conferences. He has also earned distinguished positions and numerous awards, including: “2016 Top Doctors”, Pasadena Magazine – 2016; “Top Orthopedists”, Consumer Research Council of America – 2014; Orthopedic Basic Science Research Paper Award, USC Keck School of Medicine-USC Graduate Orthopedic Society, Los Angeles, California – 2005; Minority Medical School Scholarship, Albert Einstein College of Medicine; The Bronx, New York – 1995-1997, 1998-2000; American Heart Association Research Fellowship Recipient – 1997-1998; and Provost’s Honors, University of California San Diego School of Medicine Post Baccalaureate Program; San Diego, California – 1994-1995.
Looking forward to helping patients gain their quality of life back after an injury, Dr. Reid was a fellow team physician for the Raiders and spent time working with intercollegiate and Olympic athletes. In addition, his critical analytical orthopedic expertise has allowed him to serve as an expert witness to help injured patients.
Outside of practicing medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, snowboarding, as well as playing basketball and football. He speaks English and medical Spanish.
