Enhancing Mental Health and Wellness in the Dover Community

Dr. Anna M. Hoier is an accomplished neuropsychologist dedicated to enhancing the mental health and well-being of individuals and families at Delaware NeuroRehab. Based in Dover, Delaware, she brings over three decades of experience in providing comprehensive psychological services to children, adults, and families facing various challenges that affect their pursuit of wellness.

Dr. Hoier specializes in thorough assessments of her patients’ cognitive and emotional characteristics, including intelligence, personality, abilities, interests, and neuropsychological functioning. Her expertise encompasses a wide array of therapeutic modalities, including psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, biofeedback, and behavioral therapy. She is adept at diagnosing and treating mental and emotional disorders, addictive behaviors, and addressing the psychological aspects of physical illness, accidents, injuries, and disabilities.

Beginning her professional journey in 1991 with Big Tree Counseling in Geneseo, New York, Dr. Hoier has established herself as a prominent figure in the field. She completed her Master’s Degree in Mathematics in 1986, subsequently teaching for twenty years in an urban school district. Her transition to psychology culminated in a Doctorate in Psychology in 1999, followed by post-doctoral training under renowned neuropsychologist Dr. Elkhonon Goldberg.

Dr. Hoier’s commitment to mental health is deeply personal, stemming from her own family experiences. Her brother’s traumatic brain injury in 1957 and subsequent family tragedies, including the loss of another brother in a plane disaster and the effects of severe mental illness on her older brother, have profoundly shaped her understanding of the human condition. These experiences inform her compassionate approach to therapy, making her a relatable and empathetic practitioner.

In her practice, Dr. Hoier emphasizes the healing power of laughter, believing it to be a crucial aspect of therapy and recovery. She shares this joy with her patients and fosters an environment of warmth and trust.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Hoier enjoys football, sailing, reading, and art. She cherishes her vacations in St. Rosa Beach, Florida, and finds inspiration in the works of Elkhonon Goldberg and Oliver Sacks.
