Get to know Anesthesiologist & Interventional Pain Management Specialist Dr. Aditya Patel, who serves patients in New York and New Jersey.
Dr. Patel is a board-certified anesthesiologist, with additional subspecialty fellowship training and board certification in interventional pain medicine. He brings a natural empathy to the treatment of complex pain management and spine care.
Dr. Patel is currently serving patients at Datta Endoscopic – Back Surgery and Pain Center, with offices in 10 locations throughout New York and New Jersey.
Dr. Patel completed his undergraduate training at the University of California, San Diego. There, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in animal physiology and neuroscience. Dr. Patel was then accepted to St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada West Indies, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with his medical degree in 2006.
Upon receiving his medical degree, Dr. Patel pursued a research fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. He worked in a basic science laboratory in the Department of Anesthesiology on a project studying the effects of hypoxia on programmed cell death or apoptosis. The work to which he contributed was published in an article in Current Biology.
In 2007, Dr. Patel began his residency training in anesthesiology at the Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. He served as Chief Resident in Anesthesiology during his final year.
Upon completion of his residency training, Dr. Patel began his fellowship training in pain medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. During his time there, he was fortunate to learn from a diverse group of leading physicians in the field of pain medicine, as well as from leaders in hospice care, neurology, psychiatry, and physical medicine & rehabilitation. While at Mount Sinai, Dr. Patel was trained in many of the most innovative and advanced therapies established in the field of pain medicine.
After finishing his fellowship training, Dr. Patel began working as an anesthesiologist at the Mount Sinai Brooklyn Hospital in Midwood Brooklyn. There, he worked closely with surgeons specializing in general, thoracic, spine, and orthopedic surgery. He developed protocols for acute postoperative pain management for both ambulatory and inpatient procedures. He also offered specialized therapies for acute postoperative pain management through the use of ultrasound guided regional anesthesia.
