Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Jay Courtright, who serves patients in Texas.

A seasoned hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Courtright has a particular interest in solid tumor oncology and palliative care. He practices at Texas Oncology-Medical City Dallas Building D, a cancer center located in the heart of Dallas.

A 1996 graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, Dr. Courtright went on to perform his internship, residency in internal medicine, and fellowship in hematology-oncology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1999 and 2001, respectively. 

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in medical oncology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Holding membership status, Dr. Courtright is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of blood diseases and cancers such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia, and lymphoma.

Successful in his field, Dr. Courtright has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2012, 2011), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2012, 2011), Top 10 Doctor – Metro Area (2014), and On-Time Doctor Award (2018).
