A 1996 graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, Dr. Courtright went on to perform his internship, residency in internal medicine, and fellowship in hematology-oncology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1999 and 2001, respectively. 

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in medical oncology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Holding membership status, Dr. Courtright is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.
