Originally from India, Dr. Deshmukh obtained his combined Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (the equivalent of a medical degree) in 2001 at the Grant Government Medical College, Mumbai, affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, in Mumbai, India. Upon relocating to the United States, he completed an internal medicine residency at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, NE (2004-2007), followed by his cardiovascular disease medicine fellowship (2009-2012) and his interventional cardiology fellowship (2012-2013), which he conducted at the same educational venue.
Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine and the subspecialty of cardiology with added qualification in interventional cardiology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The American Board of Internal Medicine is a 501 nonprofit, self-appointed physician-evaluation organization that certifies physicians practicing internal medicine and its subspecialties.
Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology.
