“Each day I come to work, I have the chance to improve confidence, self-esteem, function, comfort, and health. When a patient sees and appreciates what we have accomplished together, it makes me proud to be their dentist. Quite simply, I love what I do” as stated by Dr. Berkeypile.
Since 1982, he has been serving Summit, New Providence, and Berkeley Heights, New Jersey communities with high quality, professional, and friendly dental services at his practice, Jersey Smile. With his long-term commitment to state-of-the-art technology, patients can rest assured that they will receive innovative care with a history of excellence.
Being placed in charge of a patient’s oral health and smile is a responsibility that Dr. Berkeypile takes to heart. He goes the extra mile to give them the best possible results whether it is a simple checkup or complex restoration. He is passionate about practicing with integrity, compassion, and understanding toward each individual patient’s needs and goals.
Throughout his academic career, he earned his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware in 1974, followed by his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey in 1978. While in dental school, he was accepted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society for his academic excellence and was awarded the Fixed Prosthodontics Award Certificate of Merit. Additionally, he was honored with the Certificate of Merit by the American College of Stomatologic Surgeons and was a Student Teaching Fellow in the Department of Prosthodontics where he taught design prep to sophomore dental students in his senior year.
Upon graduation, he completed his general practice residency at San Francisco VA Hospital. He enjoyed the technical aspects of developing his skills and knowledge, yet only in private practice did he discover that the biggest reward was interacting with the unique personalities of his patients and staff.
Considering himself to be a lifelong student, Dr. Berkeypile takes numerous online, DVD, and traditional continuing education courses each year, in addition to engaging in larger programs with the Pride Institute and Staff Driven Practices. These experiences keep him stimulated and allow his treatments to evolve, giving patients comfortable, efficient, and state-of-the-art care. Additionally, as a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, he is encouraged and given the opportunity to grow professionally as a well-rounded practitioner.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. General dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
Growing up in Wilmington, Delaware, Dr. Berkeypile’s childhood was filled with fun, friendships, and boating on the Chesapeake Bay. He currently resides in Summit, where he has enjoyed the lovely suburban atmosphere over the past 27 years while still being close to the office. His two children, Andrew and Michael, are grown and always willing to share their newfound wisdom, though he does manage to fit in his own advice from time to time.
When he is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Berkeypile enjoys spending his leisure time at the Jersey shore or scuba diving and sailing in the Caribbean. Closer to home, he enjoys wine tasting, carpentry, staying fit and healthy, sailing, and playing golf. He also feels it is important to give back to his community, so he often participates in college fundraisers, church charities, and support of the local high school band.
