Dr. Tahsin Ergin is an orthopedic surgeon with Essex Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Salem, New Hampshire specializing in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, primarily. He knows that the key to success with any patient is to spend time with him or her explaining the problem and then providing options and recommendations for a solution.
“We’ve never been focused on volume. We’re focused on quality. We spend as much time with each patient as each patient needs to completely understand the problem and potential solutions. We often have patients say ‘Nobody ever explained that to me before’. That effort to get patients back to what they most enjoy doing is the thing that drives me now. And when I’m successful in that effort, it’s my greatest reward” expressed the doctor.
Before embarking on his professional journey, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Boston University College of Engineering, so the intricacy of human motion and the function of the musculoskeletal system appealed to him. He went on to attend the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, before completing his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Finally, he completed his fellowship in sports medicine at the same educational institution.
As a testament of his continuing education, Dr. Ergin is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). He has been the orthopaedic consultant and team physician for Phillips Andover Academy in Andover, MA for over 20 years, and is a member of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) medical staff.
Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
Among his various accolades, Dr. Ergin has been the recipient of the Top Doctor Award by New Hampshire Magazine (2017-2022), Patients’ Choice Award (2016, 2012), On-Time Doctor Award (2014), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2013, 2012).
