Dr. Alter is the Chairman of the Transfusion Committee at St. Clare’s Hospital, and a member of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The ACP is a national organization of internists, who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of adults. The ASCO is a professional organization representing physicians of all oncology subspecialties who care for people with cancer. Oncology refers to the study of cancer, whereas hematology refers to the study of blood. A medical oncologist & hematologist, like Dr. Alter, is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and/or prevention of cancers and blood diseases.
