Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Melanie Russell Blackstock, who serves patients in Medford, Massachusetts. 

Dr. Blackstock is a caring and polite obstetrician-gynecologist & a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG). She is in practice with Tufts Medical Center Community Care in Medford, Massachusetts. 

A seasoned provider, Dr. Blackstock offers complete gynecological care for women of all ages, from adolescence to menopause and every stage in between. She likes to help young women looking forward to being mothers, to build a routine that will allow them to better prepare their bodies for successful pregnancy and childbirth. She is also keen on helping adolescent girls better understand and adjust to the sudden change in their life. She is an expert when it comes to menopausal issues and offers insightful care for women during perimenopause and menopause. Her goal during patient visits is to help women understand their bodily functions and get them to be actively involved in the upkeep of their well-being.

Tufts Medical Center Community Care is a multispecialty medical group serving families in Melrose and communities across northeast Massachusetts. The team of dedicated gynecologists offers a full spectrum of care to women in many stages of life – from adolescence through menopause and everything in between. They also provide routine exams and screenings to detect potential problems in their earliest stages, helping ensure patients of all ages remain healthy and happy.

Growing up in Southern California, Dr. Blackstone attended the University of California at Berkeley before graduating with her medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1987. She then went on to perform her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Massachusetts. 

Holding herself to the highest standard of care, she is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The ABOG is a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada.

With surgery having rapidly evolved over the last two decades, Dr. Blackstone never dreamed that she would routinely be using robotics in hundreds of surgeries, helping women get back to their routines in days, rather than weeks. 

Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics and gynecology. An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a healthcare professional who specializes in female reproductive health.
