Dual-Certified Epileptologist Welcomes Patients Aged Three and Older, Offering Innovative Solutions for Epilepsy and Seizure Disorders
The Neurology Center for Epilepsy and Seizures is proud to announce that Dr. Amor Mehta, a distinguished and dual-certified neurologist and epileptologist, is now welcoming patients of all ages. With an impressive background and a commitment to providing tailored care, Dr. Mehta is dedicated to improving the lives of those living with epilepsy, seizure disorders, and other neurological conditions.
Dr. Mehta is one of the few board-certified epileptologists in both New Jersey and the United States, certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Known for his innovative and comprehensive approach to complex neurological conditions, he strives to develop solutions that meet the unique needs of each patient. His philosophy emphasizes a community-based model of care, ensuring that patients receive the attention and resources they deserve under one roof.
Dr. Mehta began his academic journey by earning a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, before pursuing his Doctor of Medicine at New York Medical College. His extensive training included an internship in internal medicine and neurology at Rutgers School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, followed by a residency at New York University (NYU) School of Medicine. His rigorous training culminated in a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology, specializing in epilepsy, where he honed his expertise in adult and pediatric seizure disorders.
“Epilepsy is a complex condition that requires a personalized approach to treatment,” said Dr. Mehta. “At the Neurology Center for Epilepsy and Seizures, we focus on understanding each patient's unique situation, allowing us to create effective, individualized treatment plans that truly make a difference in their lives.”
Before establishing the Neurology Center for Epilepsy and Seizures in 2018, Dr. Mehta served as the youngest partner at the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Saint Barnabas. There, he founded the Adult and Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey. Within just one year, he transformed the EMU into the only NAEC Level 3 accredited Epilepsy Center in Ocean County, exemplifying his dedication to advancing epilepsy care in the region.
One of Dr. Mehta’s key initiatives at the Neurology Center is the development of an “Epilepsy Medical Home” model. This innovative approach aims to centralize all necessary services and diagnostic testing within one facility, reducing the burden on patients and their families while ensuring they receive the highest standard of care.
Dr. Mehta’s commitment to advancing neurological care has not gone unrecognized. He received the 2020 FRN Impact Award and was named Physician of the Year at NJBIZ’s 10th annual Healthcare Heroes Awards in 2016. He actively participates in several professional organizations, including the American Epilepsy Society, the American Academy of Neurology, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, and the American Medical Association.
Patients seeking comprehensive care for epilepsy and seizure disorders are encouraged to contact the Neurology Center for Epilepsy and Seizures, where Dr. Mehta and his dedicated team are ready to provide the support and treatment needed for a better quality of life.
