Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Stephen Algeo, who serves patients in Arizona.

A top cardiologist, Dr. Algeo is in practice with Pima Heart and Vascular, seeing patients at their offices in Tucson, Oro Valley, and Marana, Arizona. His medical interests include general cardiology, coronary artery disease, interventional cardiology, and patient safety and cost containment.

Pima Heart and Vascular is the largest locally owned and operated cardiovascular practice in Arizona. Its board-certified and board-eligible physicians specialize in internal medicine, general, interventional, and structural cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and vascular surgery.

“I enjoy the practice of cardiology because unlike many other fields in medicine, we can usually find answers for patients’ problems and offer treatment options that are effective. The advances in cardiology that I have witnessed over the course of my career are extraordinary and the field continues to evolve” expressed Dr. Algeo.

Graduating with his medical degree from the University of California Davis School of Medicine in 1977, he went on to perform his internship and residency in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital in 1978 and 1980, respectively. Three years later, in 1983, he completed his fellowship in cardiology at the University of Arizona.

The doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, critical care medicine, and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Serving as the Medical Director of the Northwest Medical Center Cardiac Cath Laboratory, Dr. Algeo is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the Arizona Medical Association.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

In honor of his clinical expertise, Dr. Algeo has been the recipient of Patients’ Choice Award (2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012), Top 10 Doctor – City (2014), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2016, 2015, 2014), On-Time Doctor Award (2017, 2016, 2015, 2014), and Patients’ Choice 5th Anniversary Award (2017, 2016).
