Dr. Frere is a board-certified neurologist who is affiliated with ECU Physicians Neurology in Greenville, North Carolina. ECU Physicians Neurology is at the former East Carolina Neurology practice, a long-time community-oriented medical office that opened in 1977. Since then, the physicians of East Carolina Neurology have worked with the Brody School of Medicine and Vidant Medical Center to provide consultations and care for patients throughout the region. In July 2013, it became part of ECU Physicians.
Dr. Frere is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Neurology at the Brody School of Medicine. He is also affiliated with Vidant Medical Center, which serves as the flagship teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
Dr. Frere earned his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1984. He completed his internship at Ohio State University Medical Center, his residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and his fellowship at the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education.
Dr. Frere is President of the North Carolina Neurological Society (NCNS). The mission of the NCNS is to stimulate and foster improvement in the quality of all aspects of the health care of patients with disorders of the nervous system; to promote access to neurologists for these patients; to encourage the association of professional neurologists and neurological associates; to advance the practice of neurology in the State of North Carolina; to promote continuing neurological education; and to aid in the advancement of scientific and clinical techniques and research in neurological medicine.
Dr. Frere is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. Fellow status acknowledges exemplary work and achievements in the neurosciences. Dr. Frere is board-certified in neurology and clinical neurophysiology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.
