Get to know Colon and Rectal Surgeon Dr. Kiranmayi Muddasani, who serves patients throughout the State of Florida.

Well-versed in the field of surgery, Dr. Muddasani is affiliated with Mount Sinai Medical Center, seeing patients in Miami Beach and Aventura in Florida. Her dedication to providing advanced and minimally invasive treatments for a wide spectrum of colon and rectal diseases has made her an invaluable member of the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where she has been practicing since 2015.

Her areas of clinical interest include conditions such as colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, benign anorectal diseases, fecal incontinence, and pelvic floor dysfunction. She stands at the forefront of medical innovation, offering both Robotic and Laparoscopic techniques to address both malignant and benign colorectal diseases.

In regards to her educational background, Dr. Muddasani’s journey in medicine began with a medical degree from Osmania Medical College in India, and she continued her training in the United States. Her general surgery residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine equipped her with a strong foundation in surgical techniques and patient care. During her time in Connecticut, she also completed a fellowship in trauma care with the Department of Trauma and Emergency Medicine at Hartford Hospital. Finally, she completed specialty training at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, where she acquired knowledge and experience in colon and rectal surgery.

As a testament to her continued education, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. 

Moreover, Dr. Muddasani is board-certified in colorectal surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. The American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ABCRS) is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties that issues certificates for practitioners of Colorectal surgery. The board was established in 1934 as the American Board of Proctology.

Continuously advancing her efforts, she is an active member of esteemed organizations such as the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She is actively involved in the medical community and stays updated with the latest advancements in her field. 

Colorectal surgery is a field in medicine dealing with disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon. The field is also known as proctology, but this term is now used infrequently within medicine and is most often employed to identify practices relating to the anus and rectum in particular. A colorectal surgeon is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of anorectal and colorectal conditions (conditions of the colon, rectum, and anus).
