Physician Shortages

How do prenatal vitamins increase fertility?
Hello , Prenatal vitamins in and of themselves do not increase fertility. However, it is recommended that women who are trying to conceive start to take prenatal vitamins with Folic Acid at least 3-4 months in advance. The reasons behind this is not only to optimize one's overall health prior to conceptions but just as important they may protect the fetus from neural tube defects and some other birth defects. READ MORE Bleeding a week after period
Hello, and thank you for reaching out, Your abnormal bleeding can be the result of many factors. However, the foremost thing to do is rule out that you're NOT pregnant. Even though you are on Pg only BCP you could have a failure due to the other medications you are on . A home urine pregnancy test could be done. If that is negative then you are most likely having some prolonged "breakthrough bleeding" from the BCPs. This is not unusual and the additional prednisone and other meds may also be interacting with your pills. In any case you should consult with your Women's Health Provider for a full evaluation and treatment as indicated. Be well, Adelaide G. Abnormal Sensation
Hello and thank you for reaching out. Based on what you described it may be possible that you have some "vascular" abnormality in the lower genital area. Perhaps you can have an "doppler ultrasound" to determine if there is some abnormal blood flow or vasculare that is giving you that "sensation". Another possibility is that it is due to some abnormal nerve innervation. You would have to see a gynecologist who specializes in vulvar/vaginal disorders. Best of luck and be well. A. Spots on breast
Hello and thank you for reaching out. Without actually seeing the "spots" on your breasts it is impossible to make an actual diagnosis. However, based on what you have described they could be hair follicles. Many women do get hair on their breasts and this growth may be increased due to the hormonal activity you are going through during this time. However, it is advisable not to try to "squeeze" them or tamper with them as you may aggravate them, possibly get an infection and even leave a scar. It is recommended, however, that you consult with your pediatrician and/or a dermatologist for a proper evaluation and treatment. Best of luck to you and stay well. A. Nardone MD, FACOG READ MORE
IUD
Hello and thank you for reaching out. From what you just described it may indicate that your IUD is out of position or "coming out". Normally a partner should NOT feel anything "poking them". While you do not have to go to the Emergency Room tonight for this you should see a gyn provider ASAP to evaluate the IUD. In the interim do not have relations, since if it is indeed not properly positioned it may put you at risk to get pregnant. Let me know if you have any more questions.... A. Nardone MD READ MORE
Irregular Periods problem
Hello and thank you for reaching out. At age 14 many women have irregular periods. This is usually so because the endocrine complex that controls your monthly cycles has not yet matured. The organs involved are: the Hypothalamus, the Pituitary, and the Ovaries. However, other conditions may cause irregular menses including: Thyroid, Polycystic Ovaries, Obesity, Certain Medications etc. Therefore, you must consult with your pediatrician about this issue so that you can be properly evaluated and managed. Please let me know if you have any other questions and be well... A. Nardone MD, FACOG READ MORE
Adenomyosis Solution
Thank you for reaching out. Both of the conditions that you stated you are diagnosed with: Adenomyosis and Fibroids can cause heavy menstrual bleeding and pain. Therefore, the initial attempt to alleviate this problem is to try "non surgical" approaches. READ MORE
Could this be due to
Hello, Thank you for reaching out... As far as I can gather from the photos you sent this just looks like a blood clot. The only way to really know if you were pregnant or not would be by a pregnancy test either at home or with our gyn provider. However, if you continue to have abnormal bleeding, pain or symptoms of pregnancy you should consult with our Ob/Gyn provider so that you can be properly evaluated. Best of luck and be well. A. Pregnancy
Hello and thank you for reaching out. Regarding your concerns about combined oral contraceptive efficacy you should know that if taken correctly, daily and around the same time every day they are usually 90-95 % effective. However, they do not protect women against Sexually Transmitted Diseases and that is why many women use them in combination with condoms. Sometimes with very low dose Birth Control Pills women stop getting periods entirely which could be your case now. Nonetheless, the only way to be sure you are NOT pregnant is to do a pregnancy test either at home or a clinic. If you have further concerns you should contact your Gyn provider. Best of luck and be well. A. Nardone MD , FACOG READ MORE
