Get to know Urologist Dr. Christopher L. Starks, who serves patients in Leesburg, Virginia.

Dr. Starks is a board-certified urologist who is currently serving patients at The Urology Group in Leesburg, Virginia. Founded in 1924, The Urology Group provides Northern Virginia and the Greater Washington area with the finest and most up-to-date urologic care available. Priding themselves on being at the forefront of technological advances, The Urology Group strives to provide world-class care to their patients. 

The physicians of The Urology Group were some of the first to transition to minimally invasive cancer surgery and were responsible for starting and developing the da Vinci Robotic Surgery programs at HCA Reston Hospital, Inova Loudoun Hospital, and HCA StoneSprings Hospital. Dr. Starks is also affiliated with Inova Loudoun Hospital – a nationally recognized, acute-care community hospital in Leesburg, Virginia. 

Dr. Starks was born and raised outside of Kansas City, and then went on to graduate from Dartmouth College in 2002. Prior to pursuing medicine, he taught middle school science at an inner city school in Washington D.C.. He earned his medical degree from The University of Chicago-Pritzker School of Medicine in 2007. Furthering his training he pursued surgical and urologic training at Yale University and the Yale New Haven Hospital. He finished his training with a fellowship specializing in male sexual medicine and infertility at the Cleveland Clinic. During his time there, the Cleveland Clinic was ranked the best Urology Department in the country by U.S. News and World Report.

Dr. Starks is board-certified in urology by the American Board of Urology. The mission of the ABU is to act for the benefit of the public by establishing and maintaining standards of certification for urologists, as well as to work with certified urologists to achieve lifelong learning to insure the delivery of high quality, safe, and ethical urologic care.

Dr. Starks is a member of the American Urological Association (AUA). The AUA is a premier urologic association, providing invaluable support to the urologic community. Dr. Starks has written multiple scholarly articles and book chapters. He has also presented his research at national conferences, including the AUA. Furthermore, he has authored articles and lectures on topics such as vasectomy, testosterone replacement therapy, medical treatment for low sperm count, male infertility, and varicoceles.

Dr. Starks’ clinical interests are male infertility, male sexual health, and erectile function and dysfunction, with surgical specialty in vasectomy, vasectomy reversal, varicoceles, Peyronie’s disease, and sperm harvest procedures for men with low sperm counts. He additionally sees referrals for general urology conditions.

Urology, also known as genitourinary surgery, is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs. Urologists, like Dr. Starks, specialize in diseases of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system. Patients may be referred to a urologist if their physician suspects they may need treatment for a condition relating to the bladder, urethra, ureters, kidneys, and adrenal glands. 

Dr. Starks lives in Virginia with his wife and sons. In his spare time, he enjoys grilling barbeque, playing tennis, and spending time with his family members in the local D.C. area.
